AC/Heat E-350

2002 E-350 Club Wagon 15 passenger

Yesterday my AC was working, then, after I started it up again, I turned the fan on VENT and it was blowing hot air.

I turned it onto Max Air and I could feel cool air, as well as heat.

Is this another issue with the blend door?
How to fix it?

Can you hear the door move if you turn it from hot to cold and back again? Not sure if those are electric, cable or suction I know on my '92 I can put my hand up to the passenger side of the heater box and feel the cable. It doesn't take much for it to put in enough hot air to totally kill the cold air.

You've asked a question to which there is no quick or easy answer.

The "hot" air in vent after starting back up (assuming the van sat for an hour or less) is nothing more than heat soak of the entire heater core/evaporator housing area---very typical. Because the air intake for the heater system is located somewhat close to the engine heat air through the vents in Vent operation will always be warmer than ambient.

Not sure how you can feel both cool and heat simultaneously but if the vehicle is sitting still that year vehicle might have a weak A/C compressor or need its refrigerant gas pressures checked. This step would be a precaution.

Next up would be diagnosing the blend door issue----its entirely possible its at fault. With engine to operating temperature rotate the Temperature control **** on the dash and checking if the leaving air temp changes with that rotation. If not then we have a problem with that temp control itself OR the blend door has issues.

Remove the blend door drive motor, leave the electrical connector attached and repeat the dash Temp control **** rotation looking for the blend door drive lug inside the drive motor to turn. If it doesn't turn in sympathy with the temp control you have an issue with the motor OR the temp control.

A schematic can be used (I don't have one to post here sadly) to show which terminals on the blend door drive motor connector can be used to verify the circuit from the temp control to that connector is working properly. Resistance values also escape me---apologies again. IF that circuit and control meets specs your condition is either the motor or the blend door itself.

HTH---if not post back but it will be the next day or so before I can reply---PM me if I can be of help otherwise.

When I change to different modes, it seems to work.
I'll try again and see if it just got tired, for the day.

Both heat and cold were coming out at the same time, for more than 30 minutes.

You have a blend door issue, find and correct that first.
