front driveshaft compatability
Thanks,
Thomas
I presently have a F 250 made from a full size rear shaft on my F 150 front drive and this is how it was matched up .
I would check my length closely to make sure your close and the proper amount of travel is allowed in the slip yoke . Mine was cut to length so I am not sure about the length match .
Before my present shaft I had built a couple using the rear shafts from the older
drive line on the rear that had the hanger bearing and 2 piece drive line as this provided both the yokes required to make a larger front shaft than the scrawny little stock model my F150 came with . These are getting a little hard to find now so I had to change the strategy for my last one .
This has always worked well and never bottomed out on the shaft .
If you are lucky you may even find an aftermarket supply which knows which
mis-matched universials you need to do the change up . Truck Mart knew the ones for mine .
If all else fails you can measure (mic) the universals for each yoke and most
commercial industrial bearing supply outlets can sell you what you need .
Never did like those spindely little stock front shafts as whenever my Ford does
any hard breathing it is the front shaft that is taking the labor .
