About 6 months ago my front brakes locked up on my way home from work. After getting it home I talked to a few people to figure what had happened to my brakes and as usual there was several answers. After replacing several parts I ended up putting on a new brake booster on and fixed the problem. Now for the last 3 months or so I have developed another brake problem. Under normal driving conditions the braking seems fine but if I have to brake really hard I have no stopping power! This truck is my only transportation so I really need to get it fixed. PLEASE HELP!
I hadn't noticed before today because I was just worried about getting stopped but today I was at a stop and I continued holding hard pressure on it and it slowly eased toward the floor.
Check the rear wheel cylinders and lines. My rear cylinders were leaking. I bought new ones on RockAuto.com for $2.25 a piece and bent up new rear lines. Nice to have have braking power back.
I discovered I had little to no rear brakes after running the rear driveline with the axle on jackstands. Once it started spinning the rear tires I couldn't get them to stop with the foot brake for very long. You could do that check to see if it is a rear issue. But regardless I'd pull the drums and pull back the rubber boots on the rear wheel cylinders, look for seeping brake fluid. Also inspect the rear brake lines, if you're in the salt belt they could very well be trashed.
No I live in East Tennessee but I will check the rear wheel cylinders. Someone told me about a block that the brake lines run through that can become stopped up and cause similar problems. Do you know anything about that?

Are you saying your brake pedal stays at normal height but the brakes just don't grab? If YES then I would say you need to replace the booster again.

No he said the pedal slowly drops with continuous pressure. Sounds like something is leaking to me...
To the OP, there is a proportioning valve that could cause an issue. I've never had to deal with that before though. RABS may be causing an issue, but this sounds more like the system is no longer sealed.

NO that's normal with this vintage Ford vehicles. If you are stopped with the engine running and bear down hard on the brake pedal it will slowly sink to the floor or very near the floor. I didn't realize it until I read it on here and tried it, worked with all my Ford vehicles anyway.
Try doing a full-on bleed of all brakes with new fluid (obviously starting with the rear passenger wheel). Or have it done professionally.
Fluid cannot compress but air in the lines can. It'll resist compression but will ultimately compress any air in the lines reducing the pressure on the drums/discs.
Check for leaks. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder. If the fluid level is low, you know you have a leak. If there are no leaks, I would say it's a bad master cylinder. Just because it was replaced recently doesn't mean it's good. It could be defective.
