so I was driving today and while at a stop light the engine just died. No rough idling or anything just cut off. Started right back up started driving then it seemed like it lost some power. No codes lights all worked when it was off. Is this signs of a bad cps ? Or something worse. Btw it's freezing cold here in PA Prob about 15 out maybe less. Don't know if this matters. 2001 f250 7.3 163,000
I'll check the oil when I get home again today I need to change it pretty dirty. When I say no codes I mean when it died the check engine light didn't come on at all. Should I have pulled over and checked it if it does it again ?
My friend works at ford, better with gas than diesel, and has the code reader their. He ran it the other day and nothing came up, but then again no service engine light was on.
Suggestions ?
Dying like the key was shut off, then restarting with no issues can definitely be a symptom of a cam position sensor on its way out. Sometimes they'll set a DTC, but often they won't. Throw the spare you have in your glove box in it . . .
Have your buddy pickup a cps for you and throw it in. He should be able to get it under $20. When you say loss of power do you mean the eng is stumbling/hesitating or just gutless
I would say more hesitating. I push the accelerator but it just seemed delayed, then felt like power loss. Very odd. Iam sure it will happen again so I can describe it better.
