An easy way to turn your hubs without ruining the dial with pliers is to get a $3 piece of 3 foot PVC from Home Depot and grind a couple of notches in it like the one I have pictured. I've used this one for years on mine as they are very hard to turn. But with this you can put a lot of torque on them without hurting them.
^ Thanks for the idea. My hubs aren't hard to turn, but since I run spacers for my OEM 20" wheels, it's hard to fit my hands inside the lug covers to turn the hubs. Plus the edges of the hub covers are sharp and cause boo-boos on my hands.
that's a simple, no cost solution to my dilemma. No more boo-boos.

Stupid Question: I haven't had any issue with 4WD but how do I tell if they're in locked position? I couldn't tell just looking at it? I've seen the diagram but wouldn't the direction change depending on the placement of the wheel?
Also, great idea with the PVC pipe. I'll be doing this for sure!
IF YOU HAVE STANDARD MANUAL locking hubs ( which you may or may not on an 05) Clockwise locks, counter clockwise to unlock.. It still would be the same if you have older auto hubs BUT you need to read what they say on them.. My brothers F-250 has some hubs I've never seen before.
You don't need a garage. Take the cap off the wheel, squeeze and pull the metal ring out. Yank the hub off and go inside the warm house to service it. They both come off in about 10 minutes and install takes less. Don't even have to jack it up. I got good at servicing mine but they still failed me. Now I have mile markers but would have been happy to keep esof if it didn't die.
I'm trying to prepare myself for that in the future. Those stupid ESOF hub locks are around $150 to $250 each depending where you get them...I guess that's how the new guy in prison feels
