Hi everyone. I added auto headlights to my xlt and i have a behaviour question.
If someone could check the operation of the headlights i would be very appreciative.
First
In the dark. Turn your headlights to the auto position and hold a flashlight over the daylight sensor. Obviously they turn off. Remove the flashlight and time how long it takes before your headlights turn back on. My truck is approximately 15 seconds.
Second
Still in the dark, turn your headlights on the "manually on option". Repeat holding the flashlight over the light sensor. Do your instrument lights turn off and your headlights stay on? After i remove the flashlight it takes 15 seconds before my dashboard lights up again.
I think this is wrong but i dont have anything to confirm my suspision.
Any help would be great as i likely have to go back to the dealership a third time for this
Thanks for the replies guys. The one i have the hardest time with is when i turn to manual setting i would have thought that the diming of dashboard wouldnt happen. Thats the one that bothers me the most.
Good luch weathering the storm. If you happen to think about it next time an opportunity presents itself let me know if your manual on mode keeps the dashboard on or not.

Thanks again
The dashboard lights are dimmer when the headlights are on. I notice it when I tutn my headlights off and the dash lights get brighter. My guess is that is because it assumes that it is dark out snd you don't want bright dash lights shining in your eyes.
I added the fog light/sensor/auto headlight switch on my 2012 F350 and noticed the same thing. Dash lights dim based on sensor reading- in (auto or on) setting of switch
Don't know if the dealership can change it. My dealership got mine working, on auto, the second try.
There was a thread a few months ago about this situation where you can't see you dash going through tunnels etc. Will try to find it and link it when I have more time.
I recently added factory fog lights to my 2011 ford f250 XLT. I had to replace my light switch, The new switch also has "auto light" feature as well as the fog lights feature. When "auto light" is on, my lights come on with the ignition no matter day or night, which is great. I would like them to only come on at night so I bought a "sun impact" sensor and added it to the dash. I was under the impression that with that sensor my lights would only come on at night and not during the day. Was my assumption correct or are the lights suppose to work as they are? If they aren't, what steps do I need to take to have them only come on at night in "auto light" mode?
