To me at least, I've always loved a loud engine in general, I've always preferred the sound of a non muffled engine whither it be a stock 302, a weak little 4 banger, a powerful fully build up big block or a N/A Diesel truck. with the exception of a few setups that I have heard, mufflers just sound like garbage to me. I've never really liked the sounds allot of them made. Now as for stacks it really depends on the truck, On like say my 1990 F-150 I could see two three inch in diameter stacks on each side cut flat at the top and with tractor flaps looking sick as can be and sound mean with no mufflers or a little bullet muffler if you wanted to screw with the cops if they pulled you and checked your system out. I personally have never gotten any attention from my system back when it was nothing but straight pipe, I only got the attention when I would gag it in view of folks in town or run the dog crap out of it near a residential area. Out in the middle of nowhere people don't seem to care how loud it is and if they do they sure as hell aren't gonna go to the effort of calling you in. Don't act dumb with your loud exhaust in the wrong areas and you won't have any trouble is the way I've seen it go down most times.

Even stacks on a diesel is stupid. Stacks belong on semis, dump trucks, farm tractors, and that's about it. Stacks on any pickup, gas OR diesel, looks ridiculous (and that includes the Little Red Express!). I'd say they're the worst automotive fad in recent history.

Most people just have better things to do with their time then track you down and tell you you're being a jerk. That does not mean they aren't bothered and wouldn't like to just shoot your truck to shut it up.

Not gonna deny that much in the slightest, there will come that day but until then I won't think twice about what I do and don't do.However I've always token it upon myself to respect other folks when I'm not in the mood to be a giant pain and floor it, I drive with a light foot and will even idle through some areas just to keep from annoying folks in town or in areas I do not know, but if I find a empty back-road or am on the interstate I have no problems with cutting it loose and letting the truck sing her song. After all its always fun to relive some stress by ruining that one persons ride by making darn sure that they can't hear their unimportant phone call while doing 80 down the darn interstate.

You ever wonder why those vehicles have "stacks"? It's not cause it's a fad, or cool, it's function. The stack is very much in the way of MANY other functions, but it's worth it to direct the exhaust up. Dump trucks are a prime example, the stacks take up some very valuable space. Many other aspects are limited to make room for the stack.

To be fair there is no functional aspect to dual stacks on a semi tractor or dump truck though many have them. Nor is there rarely a use to a stack larger then 8" in diameter. But truckers like their trucks looking good to and looks is a function. For a commercial driver your truck is a large part of your presentation to customers.

Ahhh so you're just a (words that would get me banned from FTE)

Careful about pushing your luck. Eventually you'll run into the other side of that. Someone with a large bumper on their truck and a silencer on their gun.

Hey I ain't gonna deny I can and most likely am always a butthole. Pushing my luck is what I do best, I've had a knack for doing it right most of the time and know when its time to back off most of the time. Biggest rule for me is always leave two good exit strategy before messing around and always have a backup plan of some sort, even if it means being a bigger butthole in the process . Getting back to the point though some folks just like things differently, we are all truck/car guys here just some of us like our stuff a little different than others. Is what it is I say and i will head your advice regardless of what I desire and keep my eyes open a little wider than normal when trying my luck.

A-holes get what's coming to them period. And sometimes MORE, unfortunately. I know the very few that I've dealt with will agree. It's too bad too because I like to keep to myself most of the time but when that a-hole consistently wake up my sick newborn...

See, not everyone you disturb is big enough to fight back but their daddy's might be. Keep that in mind next time.

I do my stunts where few eyes can see and if they do they are far enough from the road to either not care or have a perfect view to cheer me on, I go out of my way in neighborhood areas to be quiet if possible with my truck and will gladly drive with a light foot to keep nosy people out of my hair, heck most folks never bat an eye to my truck when i drove like normal, it would only be when I gagged it or hit the gas that I would get the dirty look. Rule for me is big no no on any bad ideas in town/ neighborhoods, a maybe for main roads, and highways, and why the hell not for on-ramps, interstates, and empty back-roads with not a soul around.

Used to be a kid in a bro'd out Ranger who dated a neighbor girl down the street. He had no muffler on a 2.3 and it was LOUD. He would leave their house around midnight on the weekends and hold that sucker to the floor all the way down the street.

I spoke to the girls mom, but evidently the message did not get through. I walked down there one night when they were leaned up against the truck making out. I thought he was gonna poop his britches when I spoke. I "explained" the situation and it never happened again. In fact, he started leaving the neighborhood by going the other direction LOL

Did I say he was driving 80? No. Did I even say he was driving? No. That was someone else's example not mine. But yes, he was confronted and honest to God, it's never happened again.

And I did find another person at a donut shop after he drove by in such a way as to endanger my kids in the yard. No physical violence involved thankfully but I never saw his POS car ever again.

I'm not a hard ***, I just love my family.

The way I see it, if your gonna have a loud exhaust whether it be stacks, strait through or even open header, well then again open header is obnoxiously loud, a buddy of mine tried it on his 4 banger ranger....
Basically just don't be a douche about it, shadow seems to have the concept down pretty well if you ask me. And to add, If some body around you loves to stand on the go pedal and you don't like it, a simple confrontation seems to be all that's needed.
Lastly I hate to be the 1%'er here but uhm what does "bro'd out" mean @ponykilr
