Two seconds is the normal engagement time for a 4R100. If that's what you have it's normal. If you have a 5R110 it is too long.
I'll second that, my 4R takes a second to engage reverse if shifted straight in from Park, shifting from Drive is the same. Makes rocking out of a hole a real pain in the butt off-road. I'll be fixing that on the trans rebuild.
No input on the initial issue and the four second delay when engaged straight from Park, that's odd. I'm wondering if the reverse clutch and steels are a bit worn, thus increasing the tolerance resulting in the longer delay?
if the clutches were worn, would it only do it on the first shift from park after sitting for an hour or more? Then go away completely for the rest of the time driving?
once that first delayed reverse shift is done, shifting into reverse is immediate and firm for the rest of the trip..
Just thought I'd provide an update. Been a few weeks since I added the Lucas to the fluid. No issues since. Don't know if I was actually a little low on fluid, or if the additives helped. But reverse is just fine now. Maybe a one second delay in shifting to reverse before it engages. thanks.

Well, this is very timely... I was thinking mine might be acting up as well, since I was so used to my '05 F250 and how quickly it engaged in forward and reverse. I timed my cold and warm times today for my '01 Ex, and I'm happy to say they are less than 2 seconds. Thanks for making a newish Excursion owner happy!
