Just filled up today and what a surprise after the mods I have done, my average went up to 18.2 mpg instead of 15-16 . This is with very little hwy driving and without a muffler. Can't wait to see what it gets on the road.
not saying its not your mods but I notice a big improvement on my 00 when the weathers warms up as it has in the last week. I go from 16 to as high as 19MPG's.. In new england the weather has made a drastic change over the last week, from cold to warm, did you have the truck last spring / summer and compute your mileage before your mods in warm weather ??

I'm with 'ya DISLFVR. Just did all of my mods a few weeks back and drove it on the first roadtrip from home in SoDak down to Alabama last weekend (1550 miles). I've never got better than 16mpg at 70+MPH but I ran 70-75+all the way down here and got average 19 with 3 tanks of fuel. Would've probably got better but I seemed to hit rush hour in Omaha, Kansas City, St Louis, Nasville and Birmingham so naturally a bit of road rage (and associated black smoke) kicked in to get thru the traffic. I didn't see any big differences in mileage between the tank with Stanadyne added, the tank with PowerService added and the tank with no additive (all #2), BUT I can definitely hear the injectors a LOT more without the additive. Fill 'er back up with additive and in about 20 miles she went back to quiet. I can't wait to make the return trip in a few weeks.
People underestimate the importance of the engine reaching proper temperature for efficient operation. As the outside temp comes up, is easier to reach more efficient operating temp.
Many people have switched to the 203 degree thermostat. It runs warmer all year round, but makes a big difference in winter running efficiency (and a better working heater).
EDIT NOTE - the PSD was designed by Navistar with a 203 degree thermostat. Ford switched to a 195 to reduce nitrous oxides.
You CAN'T run an International thermostat in it, as Ford redesigned the water pump for whateverreason. There is at least one company that makes a 203 thermostat for the Ford PSD. I don't know if any sponsors carry it.
