1957/80: The VIN contains 11 digits, only decodes to the series, engine size, assembly plant and numerical sequence of assembly.
Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch, post all the info stamped on it.

If OP is looking for original and previous owners, first he needs to be prepared for disappointment because most states will refuse to give info or will charge for it. Start with finding a cop who is a friend who can check the registration(s) in your state. When/if it goes out of state find someone in that state who can look for you. A Marti report will give info on dealer who originally sold it. Work both ways till you meet yourself in the middle
