Thinking about headers once again. I have a 78 460 f250 camper special that I put in a 79 f250 4wd frame and running gear. I have a dual flowmaster exhaust with stock manifolds already but thinking about some chassis exit headers. Stock 460 with c6 tranny on 4:10 gears with 31" skinny tires (33" is an option soon) stock ride height that I use for occasional driving, hauling/pulling firewood, and pulling a trailer someday. I know headers can leak and don't last as long but I figured I could get some extra power. Header ideas? Worth the purchase?
I have Hedman's headers on the monster truck. For inexpensive headers, they work and fit nice. They use a bell shaped flange at the collector which eliminates the need for a gasket and they don't leak.
I went with Hedman fenderwell exit headers which were slightly cheaper that the repro manifolds. Sound good and no leaks so far after 4 years. You have to the correct headers to clear your front differential.
