Exhaust question

After reading through multiple pages in the exhaust forum I am going to bring my question here, I am wanting to upgrade my exhaust from the heads back. I want to go with headers but my question is which ones. From what I have read the 96 has EGR and O2 attached to the exhaust so has anyone dealt with this and have any recommendations. Also from what I have read the long tube are better than the shorty but is there any benefit to go with ceramic coated other than heat?

Can't help on with the exact details but you have I believe two o2 sensors. I would think as long as they are re-connected it would be fine or maybe you can get a hand held device that would turn off the engine code it might throw. Someone should be able to help with all that but as far as long tube vs short and ceramics ..... Shorties are easier to fit and bolt up to the factory exhaust on at least mine. Go with pacesetter if you go shorties. I like you wanted my headers to look good and not rust. Almost did buy ceramic but I'm glad I didn't because everything I read said over a longer period of time it will break down. That's why I bought some 304 stainless steel headers. They shouldn't ever rust. Hope that helps you at least a little

Op's truck will have two O2 sensors ahead of the converters and a third one behind the converter to measure efficiency. Finding an off-the-shelf y-pipe can be problematic because of the extra O2s. Easy to add extra bungs....

The 5L truck gets the exhaust gases for EGR operation from the lower intake manifold, not the passenger side exhaust manifold like a 5.8L.

Good to know about the EGR. I havent done alot of research yet on exhaust but from what I have read using the existing Y pipe is no different than an aftermarket depending on the type system you are going with as long as its in good shape.
