Have a 1985 ford conversion van. With 351 automatic with factory air.Bought a new fan motor and fan from oreillys.Noticed the the fan blades were in the wrong direction and you cannot turn the fan around because of the short motor shaft.Oreillys said there was no such fan wheel on the market.I bent the old fan wheel getting it off the shaft and now has a big wobble.
Point is that I called autozone, advance, carquest and napa too.All of the fans are pointing the wrong way.If you use the fan that came from the new fan it pulls air from the top of the dash.So I am looking for a outlet for the correct fan or a used one.Have been working on old Fords for 50 years and not a 1st timer. Thanks greyhound
That is the picture of my fan motor and wheel. But the blades are pointed in the wrong direction. With that fan running in the van it is pulling air from the vents on top of the dash downward. You can run it in the other direction and the same results. You look at the duct work and see which way it needs to go.I bought a fan from autozone and it was a inch smaller than the one I had.The fins were in the right direction.Had to drill out the fan shaft to 5/16s.Since the fan had a recessed collar I had to shim the round fan cover out out so the fan would not rub the cover.I hate to jury rig something to get it to work.I found a fan that went in the right direction but the hole was 3/8s instead of 5/16s,but did not know if the made a shaft shim. You never know. Was going to post pics of what my fan looks like but did not know what to do.Thanks for your input.Thats more than what I got from the auto stores.Greyhound
