Every time I start my 06 Escape 3.0 theirs a metallic sound (best way I can describe it). I've heard other Escapes with the same sound and some other Ford vehicles with it s well. It's noisier in cold weather. Something to be concerned about? Thanks
Do you hear it while the engine is being cranked over, or after the engine starts?
Have you tried removing the serpentine belt to eliminate all the accessories from the list of suspects?
Does the noise slowly decrease as the engine warms up? An exhaust manifold gasket leak can cause a sharp noise depending on the size/location of the leak. A lot will quiet down as the parts heat up and close the gap more.
You can open the hood and localize the noise to get a better and more accurate description.

The noise always occurs when cranking the engine hot or cold. It (noise) continues after starting until the engine warms up particularly in cold weather. In warm weather the noise is hardly noticeable (after starting). I'll take a closer look under under the hood and see if I can localize it. Thanks for your reply.
