Transmission identification

I got my 65 Ford F100 and I'm about to do so rear end work. I need help identifying it. It was a column shift but removed, noticed the transmission support beam was moved forward. Here is the numbers I got:
RF-C57
7A040-B
W-2

What motor are you running? Is it original?

That's actually a 300 straight six. They didn't classify it as 4.9L until 1983.

Is your current transmission a 3-speed or 4-speed with a floor shifter then, or what do you have going on there? Can you describe the shift pattern? Is reverse all the way right and down or someplace else?

Can you take a picture of your transmission? Pictures are worth...well...you know.

The numbers, are they on an ID tag or cast into the transmission?

This is not the trans ID number, it's the partial casting number off the extension housing.

In your "Overdrive" thread, I told you what the trans is (Warner T-85N O/D) and posted a pic of the O/D unit.

Thank you for the clarification. If feels like a 3 speed, there is only 2 shifting arms plus one in the bell housing. The shifting pattern is unknown. It is not the typical "H" pattern. It is straight forward and straight back. The numbers are cast into the transmission. I'll try to upload a picture.

I've found having 400 different threads going with different questions in each thread is more trouble and more of a burden for the other forum members than having one thread where the questions are asked, but that's just me. Trying to keep track of ones own threads and go back to each to see what someone wrote just doesn't seem like it works as well. Case in point.

I know and I'm sorry for the double post but I have had a chance to look under the truck and saw that the cross member had been moved forward so that lead me to believe it was no longer the stock transmission.

He sezs:

Why the heck do you keep asking which trans it is, since I've already told you twice?

Warner T-85N Overdrive:

1965/67 F100 240/300 I-6 & 352 / 1968/71 F100 240/300 I-6 & 360/390 / 1969/71 F100 302.

This trans uses the usual H slot column shift pattern, same as every 1940/86 Ford 3 speed without O/D.

I had this same T-85N trans in my 1965 F100 352 8' Styleside, that I owned for 44 years (1965/2009).

Ok maybe, I wasn't clear or you all aren't looking at the whole thread. The support member has been moved forward, the shifter has been moved to the floor. Just small things indicating that in fact T-85N may not be the transmission in there. As to why I'm asking questions. I apologized for the half way double post but it isn't a double post.

Can anyone tell me the correct placement of the transmission support beam? If it had a non stock transmission at one time and has been put back or what ever the deal is I'll figure it out if the transmission support beam is in the incorrect place.

Wow, well I have just been told that I've drove someone batty when I've done nothing wrong. It does not matter if you have had your transmission in your truck since it was new. If someone comes with information that indicates that possibly the transmission is not stock and it does not have the standard "H" pattern then give him the benefit of the doubt. The Overdrive and Transmission were two different threads. I noticed that there was no "T" handle, no kick down switch, so I asked. I noticed that my support beam has been moved forward and that the shifting pattern is not the typical deal, so I asked about my transmission. They are two different topics. Forgive me!!!!
