Split Rims?

My brother has four 15 x 5 1/2" split rims that he no longer needs. Since they are a Ford pattern we think they may be Ford wheels, but don't see a Ford oval showing. Anyone recognize them? Anyone need them? Any idea what year(s) truck they might be from? He hates to throw them away in case someone is restoring something that uses them, but....

They look like old travel trailer wheels.

I think this might be your answer. You can also ignore what the guy posted over on the 61-66 page, these can still be serviced at any real truck shop.

I just spent time going through my old wheel catalogs and don't find a vehicle that used a 15" x 5.5" semi drop center two piece rim, probably a Firestone RHP design, having 5 lug x 5.5" bolt pattern and using hub cap clips. So could be trailer, implement, or something similar.

You mentioned on the 61-66 guy's posting that you had a truck with two piece 16.5s. I'll disagree with that too. Any wheel having the half inch sizing is by definition a one piece tubeless truck wheel having what is called a 15° rim profile. Could yours have been 16" two piece? They were offered for a lot of years. Stu

Years ago I was given four exactly like that from a guy who had old travel trailers he fixed up, so I concur. I got rid of them in the purge of '99. I also still have two 15" that look almost the same, but 8 lug from a 3/4 ton Chev.

Thanks, guys. They might well be trailer wheels. And thanks for the research.

As for the wheels on my '72, I'll bet I have it backwards and the split rims were 16" and the ones I put on we're 16.5". Sorry. Glad you caught that.
