i had a little bit of a scare today. I plow with my 2015 f350 and plowed for 18 hours today. Turned the truck off once or twice. So I get home finally and my neighbor asked me to clear his driveway. So I get back in my truck
, start it back up and put it in drive, and the tranny goes straight to 5th gear. Never has done that before. So I went from park back to drive I heard a click and it went back to 5th and wouldn't come out. So I restarted the truck and it reset and was fine after that. Any ideas what could have been going on?
Just curious.. did you happen to check the trans temp during those 18 hours ? Might have over heated.. just guessing.. My old 99 superduty diesel trans would really heat up going thru town in 1st and 2nd gears..
Computers crash occasionally. It's like "death and taxes". Especially after all the processing it had done through the day. The first thing we always do with any goofed-up PC is reboot it. That solves the problem about 3/4 of the time. The fact that restarting it got it working properly again sounds like one of those cases. But that leaves the "click" unexplained... unless the PCM triggered some servo that got stuck after a hard day's work, or one of the bazillion gadgets for the stability control. The manual indicates that some strange noises may emanate from that right after startup. I also seem to remember something about all the gear numbers blinking, or something like that, if it detects a serious problem.
You previously had a 6.0, and you plow snow... I bet you already checked the tranny fluid level...
A one-time malfunction is an anomaly. A second or third time would mean there's a problem. It would be interesting to check the PCM to see if any trouble codes were recorded.
I have to ask, otherwise, how does the 6.2L / TorqShift perform plowing snow?
