have a 1984 302, which I pulled the old srod out. Have 1993 T5 to put in.
Do I need an adapter and spacer ? has anyone just drilled and tapped exsisting bellhousing?

Not sure the pattern is the issue, but rather bell depth. Get the tape measure out....SROD should be 6 1/2" iirc, T5 adds a bit more, maybe another 1 1/2". Not sure, maybe some specs here:
