Look into Holley double pumpers. I was amazed at how much information there is available on them. Not to mention every part can be easily bought for them. If the engine isn't too far from stock a 600 or 650 should be more than enough to put some pep in your trucks step.

Keep in mind that you'll have to swap out intakes if it hasn't been done already.

FYI.. double pumpers are MPG killers.... if that's in any way important to ya.

Consider a Edelbrock's Thunder Series AVS or Holley's Truck Avenger in 600 cfm.

I put one of these Summit brand carbs on my 77. Pretty good for the money. Worked really good right out of the box. I may try to tune it later but right now it's working great for what I do.

I have a quick fuel slayer series on mine and I love it. Gives you a few more options for tuning that the other carbs may not offer. From what it sounds like, you probably dont need a double pumper. A vacuum secondary will be just fine.

I have a quick fuel slayer 750 with a vacuum secondary and electric choke on my 390 and my motor has a lot of pep in its step. The link below I thought was a great resource, not only for efficiency but for dollar value.

Oh, and the guys above are correct you most likely dont need anything bigger than a 650 but I always figure you can tune the carb down if necessary and it leaves room for different mods in the future. cam swap, headers, performer intake, etc.

Now $267? The price has come down from $287 a few months ago.

I would like to get more power, I don't wanna totally kill my mpg even though I'm sure it's not great anyhow. As far as mods I think the engine is pretty stock. I've done a exhaust but this will be the last mod I'm sure to this engine. Diesel later in a year or so but the current carb needs to be rebuilt so I figured I'd just replace it.

Then you should stick with a run of the mill 650 or try to find a used one on craigslist or something. 600 and 650 carbs are always forsale at local swap meets for cheep. I found one a local show for $20, did a quick rebuild on it, its good to have a spare I figured.

+1 Get a used 600 cfm 4-bbl Autolite 4100 or Motorcraft/Holley 4180C or something of the sort and rebuild it.

Had a 600cfm Holley 4160 on my 351. It was plenty and realible.
For the new 460 I have a eddy 750. Can't speak for it yet.
Was lookin at a demon. Summit tech line talked me out of it. Said it was jus another thermoquad ? . and a few reviews steered me from the summit brand carb.

I had a 750cfm demon on a built 454 in my 59 Cadillac and have to say it was a hell of a ride but between the small gas tank and the price of 91 here in so cal it was also was a hell of a hole in my pocket at the pumps which I'd like to avoid since this isn't a hot rod but I appreciate everyone's input I've got some hunting ahead of me since I'd like to have it running again asap

An Edelbrock intake and a Carter 625 is an excellent combo. And when you add a Comp Cam 268 bumpstick......look out!!

I just put a Quick Fuel 650 Slayer on my 360 73 CC. It's the 2nd one I have bought for my cars and I doubt I will ever buy any other brand than QF. They work great right out of the box.
