prices vary a lot, depending on a lot. you can get a run of the mill short block from 1000-1500, but its normally cheaper to reuse your block and some of the components. the more work you do, the better (teardown). . .crank and rods can typically be reused, machine work for the block for an overbore, clean, and bearings will be less than 500.
youre asking a lot from people who wont be doing the work. so, if youre not going to pull the engine then youll have to pay someone to pull the engine who also has the capability of rebuilding it. most machine shops aren't in the business of auto repair, so that might be difficult.
if you pay a shop to pull it, and they have to transport the engine to a machine shop to be rebuilt, expect the price to go up substantially.
if you find a shop that will remove your engine, and core it for a replacement, expect the price to go up substantially.
my advice; if you just want to drop your truck off at a shop, then pick it up with a new engine, expect to pay 4k+
Oh wow, $1500 is way lower than I thought it would be To have someone overhaul it
Well that's not what you asked.. you asked "how much it would cost me to overhaul a 302" which implies you're doing at least some of the work. If you're paying somebody else to do all of it then you could easily pay double that.
