Well your right but this one really depends on you. Have I heard of any complaints of poeple using the FPP shortblock...nope?
Have I heard many complaints from those who chose to rebuild their shortblock, purchase the scat $265 393 crank, use 302 pistons, reuse stock 5.8 rods...nope?
About the only advantage I can see to the ford offering, is your getting a sportsman block and the odds of it being faulty are less, as compared to relying on a machinist work to prep your block.
Call around your area and see what a machinist/speed shop needs to set up a simillar shortblock using your block....then you can go from there.
Something funny though, if you look at the jegs catalog, they have the 392 shortblock all forged listed for $3699 and all cast for $3734, same sportsman II block on each. That has to be a misprint for sure.
Thank you for your input, the price varies from ford and also summit.
i'm thinking if its factory there is less hassels and it is fords best. I'm certain it could be done for alot less.
Not sure what your getting at with "factory" or "best". I am not certain where ford gets their internal for the shortblock from, they may produce it in house but wouldn't be suprised if it was sourced elsewhere though. Just my opinion, good luck, be sure to let everyone know what you think if and when you get your FPP 392. later
