I have an 1989 f150 automatic transmission 5.0 long bed single cab. I changed out the passenger break line that was leaking and bleed the breaks. The pedal goes all the way to the floor with only about an inch of pedal left. The truck will stop but after a min. The breaks go out all together can't find anything leaking so I am very lost. If it sits a few hours the breaks work again. Any help would be great thanks.
Nah they didn't work. I bought it a week ago and it didn't really stop for the guy but I couldn't beat the price. The passenger side was leaking so I suspected sacking air and changed that one out and it worked better. I push the pedal down a and it is real slow coming back up when I say slow I mean really slow
It would be hard to say what the problem is. Maybe the rear brake shoes weren't self adjusting. Maybe somebody installed front calipers on the wrong sides. Maybe a bad master cylinder.
I assume the brake light in the cluster is working and not coming on when you press the brake pedal?
Yeah no lights come on. Ima tear the back breaks apart and check them out front calipers are on correct. Ima change the master cylinder also. I only paid 500 for the truck with rebuilt motor and tranny back in 2010. So yeah spending a few bucks to get the truck to stop no big deal.
Oh I forgot the way I get it to stop I have to put it into neutral and push the ebreak
Well if the e BRAKE is working well enough to stop the truck it means the rear brakes are adjusted fairly close and in good mechanical condition for now.. So unless you see a leak on the rear you should continue double checking work you have done,, I would be looking very close at the master cylinder...
Yeah the guy that sold it to me could only stop it with the e break lol I can get it to roll 5 to 10 feet and it will stop on regular breaks but after doing that a couple of times the breaks die and I gotta pull the e break. I'm gonna change the master cylinder either Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks for the advice.
