Installed in 20 minutes and the best $28 I've spent in a while! It makes a slight scraping noise when the tailgate is going down. Does anyone else who owns this have this problem?
I've had one for about a year and a half, and it's great. The only downside is that in this stupid-cold weather we've been having, it can take a while for the tailgate to drop. Bit inconvenient if you're holding something heavy that needs to go in the bed.
Nothing should be scraping. You may need to adjust it a little. I'd do so before it takes paint off and you end up with rust starting.
The mount on mine stripped out after a few months...but they sent me a replacement without any hassles. I've just had too many thing get in the way of drilling out the old mount. No scraping noises, just the sound of the oil moving.
Did you tighten yours more than the instructions say to? I'm wondering if that is why my mount failed.
I installed mine last night. No scrapping on mine. Little bit of trouble trying to get the well nut device to start expanding. Hopefully it will last for many many years.
The scraping is from the actual cylinder not scraping the truck. These things are filled with oil right? I didn't see any in the box or packaging so I'm sure the cylinder didn't leak. Yeah the marking it and counting 9 twists was an absolute joke. It took me 9 twists to get the nut to expand and another 9 to open fully.
Hmm...I don't remember how many turns I did but I do remember following the instructions exactly and thinking it wasn't tight enough. I'll keep that in mind when I put the next mount on. I'm just avoiding the fun of drilling the old one out.
I read a post a while back where someone took the tailgate cover off and ended up using a nut/lock washer combo instead of the expanding bolt thing. Good luck getting that out without it spinning might have to remove the cover to hold it tight
Windchills are making it below 0 here which only happens a few days a year here, if that. I went to open it this morning and it took quite a while to open I'm sure in Alaska you could lap the truck and it still wouldn't be down lol

Normally, yes but in todays 35F temp it drops quickly
You mean it's colder here than in Alaska?!?! My truck said 13 degrees this afternoon
Yes Sir, 40 and rain tomorrow, 40 and cloudy sunday. By Monday we won't have any snow left. Supposed to keep up all next week also…i would complain but this winter has been a bust from the start.
