hey guys first off id like to say thanks for all the help ive been on this forum about a month. i just bought my first diesel a few months ago. i bough a 2005 harley davidson edition with 90k on it. seller claimed it was a great truck no issues. however after a few weeks of driving it i noticed coolant loss and took it in and had to replece the heads. so i wile it was in the shop i had the arp head studs put in egr delete and blue spring mod. truck runs great now however over the the past week my mpg has dropped aabout 8/10s of a mile i checks the air pressure in the tires and it is good. i checked for dtcs and didnt have any my concern is i have a bad ebo sensor or it is clogged as i have read this could make the mpg go down is this true and were should i start?
Winter fuel makes mileage go down. Have you anything to read live data? Clean the EBP sensor and the tube to be sure and 8/10..... using the lie-o-meter? Idling brings down your mileage or a good tromp from the stop light.
Use your block heater, it's cheaper than idling. Winter fuel will definitely bring your mileage down. Do you use a fuel additive, antigel and cetane booster?
i use a livewire ts. i dont have any codes and all the data looks good but my mpg just sucks think it might be the cold here in va. and no i dont use a fuel additive what do you recommend?
But even so -- are you resetting it when you fill-up? There are so many variables to getting accurate fuel consumption numbers: same station, same pump, same temperature, same filling procedure, same route, same weather. And winter versus summer fuel... And that is for folks that hand calculate.
biggest one is usually a lot more data collected and looking at an average. There are some guys here that have kept a log book from when they 1st got their truck -- so you can get pretty deep into the subject...
At least try resetting the meter, and also try NOT resetting it for a number of fill-ups (it does an avg. then).
Enjoy the ride and welcome to the best forum there is...!
I reset the lie o-meter each fill up. And it seems to be real close to actual.
I fill the same way each time. Doesn't matter which pump or station I fill at. The only variable will be the accuracy of the pump. Some have reported finding stations being quite a bit different in accuracy of quantity. I do try to fuel at the same nozzle each time.
I top to the cap each fill. I haven't "harpooned" the tank and it does take sometime to fill this way, but, I know it's full.
Winter time idling, as posted above, will greatly reduce MPG.

Take a look at our Diesel Winter Anti-Gel. It helps protect against gelling, while also adding cetane and lubrication into the fuel. Diesel Winter Anti-Gel - Hot Shot's Secret
