Fuel tank dilemma

Thought I would see what greatest bump minds would have to say about this. I have a 68 F100 LB that eventually I will be doing the CV swap and making it a short bed, but in the time leading up to that large job I drive it just for fun. My problem is the in cab tank must have the pick up tube rotted off at half tank because that's all I get (not even half actually). I'm going to do the mustang tank as part of the other work. I don't really want to spend any money on the in cab tank since I will be dumping it later. Do you guys think it's worth it to do the Mustang tank now for the drive ability or just deal with fuel ups every 60-70 miles. I'm leaning towards doing the Mustang tank because it might be a year or so till I start work on the CV swap ( building a new house and shop has priority ).

You should be able to remove the sending unit and look into the tank with a flashlight to check the condition of the pick up tube.
