Found a nice pair of OEM ford west coast mirrors on a 72 F350 in a salvage yard and was wondering if these will also fit the 73-79. Looks to be about the same contours between the 67-72 and 73-79 doors.. If I would have had more time before they closed I could have removed one and tried it on a 73-79 now i'll have to wait till next Sat.... Thanks...
Thanks for the info... Figured they would fit... Those mirrors in the salvage yard are just like yours co425... I may take a day off just to go get them...
1967/72 Western Junior (West Coast) mirrors use different mounting brackets than 1973/79's because the door contours are different.
If the mirrors were the same, the part numbers would be the same. But, they aren't the same. The only part that is the same 1967/72 & 1973/79 is the mirror head (C7TZ-17723-A).
C7TZ-17696-E Right & C7TZ-17696-F Left .. Western Junior Stainless Mirror w/3rd steady rest arm / Obsolete - 1967/72 F100/350.
D3TZ-17696-A Right & D3TZ-17696-B Left .. Western Junior Stainless Mirror w/3rd steady rest arm / Obsolete - 1973/79 F100/350.
So you want to go from type 7's to type 9's... they look to have the same holes and door position. The type 9 arm is riveted to the mount bracket, so its not just a take apart and try.
I can get you some type 9's mount bracket measurements.
Bill,
Do you happen to have the parts manual for the 67-72 trucks? I'm curious to see what the difference between them is since you mentioned a part number difference.
I sold a set of west coast mirrors last week to a guy with a '73 SCS. The set I sold him matched his good mirror exactly as well as the set that is on my '79.
I have a third set of west coast mirrors with the 3rd arm that are slightly different and trying to figure out what they are from. The frame/bracket is about 2" longer to make the mirrors sit further out from the truck cab. The brackets are slightly different too where they bolt to the door. They are still stamped "FOMOCO" on them. If what you're saying is correct, I wonder if these are from an earlier truck? I don't see them on the mirror listing you have shown. In all other ways they look identical the the west coast mirrors we are all familiar with for our dentside trucks.
Some measurements on the distance between the bolt heads (c to c) would be great. Top, bottom, front, back and X if you can (6 measurements). No hurry.

How about the insert placement off a 79 instead with type 9's instead?
Sorry not the best, dang it is cold outside.
If you are going to try to swap them, make sure you lube the old mirror hardware very well, you do not want to break loose the nut-sert in the door.
But if you do during the mount bolt removal, just take the door panel off and use some vice grips to hold the insert while you continue to take the bolt out.
Then either us the vice grips to hold it during the reinstall or just remove the insert all together and go to a bolt, lock washer or lock nut set up.
I never liked the type 7 mirrors. Such a droopy looking thing for sure. The west coast mirrors bring a decent amount of money on eBay, so anytime you can grab a set out of a salvage yard, do it. I got 3 pairs and always willing to get more. Bad part is they used steel bolts on these mirrors and around here, they corrode so bad that you cant adjust the mirrors and end up breaking off the bolts trying to get them apart. Luckily we have a local stainless speed shop that makes about any type of stainless part possible. He makes stainless "bolt rebuild kits" for the 73-79 Ford west coast mirrors, including the acorn nuts and "T bolts". Slick for a rebuild!!
