A4ld underdash solenoid adjustment?

I was under the dash of my Bronco II again....and there is a ecm looking module under the drivers side of the dash that says automatic transmission solenoid and has a couple of adjustment screws on it. One for sensitivity and one for centering. My A4LD likes to kick down outta overdrive on the freeway, especially over slight grade inclines. Anyone have any idea what this adjustment box is, how to properly adjust it, and should it cure my problem? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, it's an 85 4x4 with a 2.8. All in all it's great for the 900 bucks I spent on it 3 years ago.

Do you know if it's the original transmission? I'm reasonably sure that the '85 A4LD used engine vacuum to control the 3-4 shift; same as the other shifts. It might have been '87 or '88 when they started to control the 3-4 shift electronically. I guess I'm wondering if that module is an aftermarket addition so they could put a newer A4LD in.
Another question, are you certain that the "shift" you feel is a 3-4 shift and not the torque converter lockup clutch disengaging?

Certainly feels like a 3-4 shift and the rpms hop up too, just like it downshifts back to drive rather than overdrive. As far as I know trans is original. I got the vehicle with 120,000 miles and had to have the front end of it rebuilt shortly after ( Even better deal than the purchase of the truck...pump, bellhousing, front bearing and seal for $50 through a friend of a friend, but not as good as my 99 cent transfer case off ebay). I'll get some more info off the module tomorrow and post part number and manufactuer. By the way everything else seems to be computer controlled , even the carb, and I don't recall any unexplained vaccuum lines when I pulled the tranny.

When the torque converter clutch disengages, it can feel like a "shift" and the RPM's will jump up as well. Try this next time you feel this shift. Without changing anything else (throttle position etc.) shift the transmission selector from OD to D and see if it "shifts" again. If doesn't shift again, that will verify that it was a 4-3 downshift. if it does shift again, then the previous "shift" was the TCC unlocking.

New info....the module is an "automatic transmission electronic servo" , has a power light and an engage light...p/n 2700143...it does look like its been retrofitted in and has no manufacturing name on it.....any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm sorry I don't know anything about that servo, but I'm curious to find out. Have you got any new information on it? Out of curiosity have you asked the folks at Ford? An aftermarket Tranny shop? Since it looks like an aftermarket addition, the non-ford place might know more about it. Have you traced wires off of the module to see where they go? If you find the tag on the transmission, it has the year encoded into the numbers; that might tell us whether or not it's the original tranny or a newer tranny.

No tag on tranny, and Ford has no idea. One of these days I'll get to a tranny shop
