I'm looking to install a trans oil cooler in my '99 F150 2wd/5.4L. What are my options? I called a dealer and a Ford one is $89. Not bad. But what are my options?
I just put in a Tru-cool one on my 88 f250/5.8l/c-6 auto. Tru-cool is a division of Dana as i recall. very good quality and good quality kit that comes with it. it is relatively easy. i went with a bigger than stock one so i had to use the supplied brackets. it wouldn't just bolt right in to the stock location. some coolers are cheap and flimsy and only come with little zip ties that you attach through your radiator (not the best way to support your cooler). you'll need a little $5.00 pipe cutter, a drill for mounting holes, and you just attach the rubber tubes to the pipes and cooler, mount your brackets and that's it. took me about 4 hours going very slowly. i wanted the best cause i haul alot.
sorry buddy i do not have a tranny guage yet. my original was leaking so i had to replace it. i can tell you that the dipstick was hot before! and its not now. the local ford expert here did say that with this cooler and a c-6 tranny i would never have an issue.
cheers.
They have both Hayden and Tru-Cool coolers and I have purchased from them before. You are looking at $40-$50 for an LPD (Low Pressure Bypass) cooler and they are worth every penny!
