My 87 has the undesirable hat style hubs and one spindle is ruined.
Can I just pull the axles, spindles and rotors off another TTB front end with the common manual locking hubs and slide them in my axle tubes/center section and bolt on the matching spindles, with their manual locking hubs?
That way I can leave my carrier assembly in place, suspension, knuckles and steering attached. Is that the easiest way to get rid of the hat style hubs and spindles?
thnx for any insight.
Yes you can do pretty much exactly what you said. Although I am not 100% sure if the knuckles will be the same or not. I am almost completely sure you will need to change the outer stub shafts, I believe they are different.
Thnx,
I saw Bronco Gravyard sells a kit to do the conversion. It has the outer axle shafts, spindles, and hubs for over 800 bucks. I can buy a compete 86 bronco for 500.
After looking at their kit with the parts they show I figured I could just swap the guts and not disturb the front alignment ect...We'll see if it works. I'm picking up an 86 front axle assembly Sat for 150 bucks.
I am doing a brake job on my 87 and wonder if it is worth the effort. The truck has been this way for a long time with no problems, but it sure is cheap looking.
