I have been using Amsoil since 1984. The engine in my 79 Chevy finally wore out last year but I have no idea how many miles were on it because the odometer wore out 12 years ago. My lawn mower (also on Amsoil) is also over twenty years old and still cutting the grass just fine. My two Harleys with modified engines are both high mileage bikes with no problems.
It is all good. I was not knocking on Amsoil. As a matter of fact I have heard very good things about that brand and had the pleasure of working on a 7.3, glow plugs and injector o-rings, that had had nothing but their 15-40 Marine for 375k+ with 25k drain intervals with the by-pass filter. Very clean, great compression, no major repairs, etc. and it is a work truck. The dude has saved a lot of money on oil and filters. If you are willing to do the extended drain intervals then it makes sense...15 x $170 vs. 75 x $80.
His truck is the reason that I put a by-pass filter on mine. Personally, I am afraid of pushing an oil change that long which does not mean anything. It may be perfectly fine to do so.
It seems that the above car dealer scenario may be the exception instead of the rule. Otherwise, Amsoil would have been out of business long ago due to litigation.
