Well, on the way home yet again tonight my beast threw ANOTHER check engine light. Got home and pulled the code. It's a P0402 this time. Better than the six codes I got last month (LOL).
So this is part of the EGR circuit. While my truck was down the last few weeks I did some maintenance. Part of that was to pull the EGR and clean it. So do you think my cleaning the EGR with a spray can of carb cleaner effected the EGR? I soaked her real good and did some scrubbing so I know the holes on the bottom side got cleaner inside of them. I read about not getting anything into those holes AFTER I cleaned it. How else would I do it right? Just my luck.
Yep not suppose to get cleaner in there , clear the code set the gauges to EDC ( egr duty cycle) and EVP ( egr valve position ) and see if things are moving right
EDC koeo-0 low 0-15 high-32
EVP koeo-0.8 low-0.8/1.0 high-1.3
remember to take this test in park no hvac radio
koeo key on engine off ,low idle, high 2500 rpm steady
COOL 04badford!!! I am game for that. Thanks. I don't have a scan gauge just your typical code reader. Bruce
No Problem Bruce looked up the DTCs and p0402 say's
EGR flow excessive, sensor failure . so one of two thing thus far the valve is sticking or electrical there is a ford dealer down the street, Auto zone, Napa, Krapgen auto. we can try to clear the code , Monitor the Valve operation and see if the dtcs pop back up . any running issues.
Yes, power seemed to be down a tad and she was acting a little sluggish. I cleared the code after pulling it but have not driven her in the last few hours. She was running great before that having just got the FICM back in, changing out to a high output alternator, and doing some maintenance. Bruce
So we figured the EGR Valve was bad. I went and bought a new one and installed it. While I was at it I pulled the Intake Air Temp sensor and it was covered in soot. So I cleaned it off with some carb cleaner and re-installed. I also pulled the MAP sensor hose and cleaned it out along with the port fitting on the intake. I also checked the alternator voltage at the batts using my FLuke 88. It showed 14 volts steady with everything turned on. So I have no idea why there would be a .7 volt drop at the ODB connector. So everything should be good now right? Nope!!!!
While driving my rig last night check engine light came back on. I used my basic scanner and got the same P0402 code!!!! Truck is running like a charm. No drivability issues. So I don't understand what is going on.
I cleared the code again today. While driving around the P0402 code came back!!!! Plus a P1000 code also. So now what? I am baffled. Any ideas guys? My code reader won't give me much info so it is useless. I did buy Torque Pro app and put it on my phone but I'm waiting for the OBD blue tooth dongle to arrive.
I checked the harness while I had her apart and everything was okay. I also cleaned the EBT tube and sensor at the same time. I still have the Cat. And yes boost is hitting like 25 PSI per my dash gauge. Turbo seems to be spooling up just fine. Even better now that the FICM has the Atlas 40 tune. I will try that reset thing. Bruce
Okay, I did the re-learn thing and test drive. So far no check engine light. I will drive her for a few days and report back. Lets keep the fingers crossed. B.
Hey Bruce , Got home alittle bit ago , how did she do? have you bench test the Alt. I seen that you did the relearn , keep us posted what the out come is . Josh would a EBP sensor be the same 04 to a 06? Bruce all else fails I have a New EBP, for test.

Threads are different on the sensors. EBP by t-stat is pipe thread, EBP by valve cover is tapered seat.
