Hi Im not the most knowledgeable mechanic so I need advise on what Im about to attempt. have a 95 f250 300 six auto (trans is going bad) and a 95 f150 300 six manual I would like to put the better trans in the better truck. same motors and both are 2wd. planning on retiring the 150 (Old purple) so can take off any and all parts needed. will this go well? I'll have some help but is there anything problems to be expected?
The trans in the F150 is a light duty Mazda M5OD and it won't stand up to a lot of abuse, the manual that would have come in an F150 is the ZF 5-sp with a granny low 1st gear. But the Mazda will go in there and work so the swap is possible.
You will also have to change the PCMs in the F250, the auto trans in that truck will be computer controlled and that PCM will throw a fit when it doesn't see it, so you will need an SD PCM for a manual trans and I6 or one from an early I6/C6 truck, the one from your F150 won't work because it is mass air.
thanks for the reply. where can I find the markings to verify the transmissions? because there is a third truck that can get involved. would a 92 f250 I6 with a manual have correct pcm?
