Here we go - my "new" 1965 F-100

Hey all,

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself and my truck. My name's Jeff and I'm the Executive Editor/Co-Founder of Hooniverse.com, and I've recently acquired a new project vehicle.

This is a 1965 Ford F-100 that I'll be playing with for the next year or so. The initial plan is to address what needs attention, and then add upgraded bits when and where I can.

Found the truck on Craigslist, located halfway between Orange County and San Diego in California. The previous owner swapped in a 390 paired with a four-speed manual.

It was brought to my attention that the fan there is installed backwards. I actually just had a new one swapped in, facing the right way, this afternoon.

The inside is in pretty good shape, but I need a new wheel with a horn because I hate not having a working horn. Also, the previous owner stuck a speaker into the area where the glove box should be. I like having a glove box, so I'll put that back together and find new homes for the speakers.

I know LMC has that headliner with the built-in speakers... anyone install that before? Is it any good?

There are a ton more pictures in there where you can see the other areas that need attention. (Right front fender, rear bumper, interior bits, etc)

From there I think I'll add some Cragar steelies with new rubber, but I'm still figuring out exactly what I want to do. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

The headliner that LMC has with speakers is for the 67-72 series truck and will not fit. But then again anything is doable. As for a steering wheel that will work for you, check out this listing on ebay.

Steering wheel

Welcome to the forum.

You could repair and repaint the steering wheel. Fixing the hon is usually easy too. Add the little copper and spring plunger and a horn button would probably fix it.

Try a company in your area for parts. Truck Shop is the name, I think in Orange.
Also John's F100's.

Jeff, Welcome to and the Slicks Forum.

Nice looking 65 Custom Cab. The V8 emblem on the hood indicates factory FE 352 that all magically become FE 390s on sale day. Get a small piece of white wire about 7in long, poke it in one of the cylinders, rest a Sharpie on the manifold against the wire and have someone spin the engine over with a pull handle on the crank nut. Measure the length of the mark for the stroke. We can advise from that if it is indeed a 390 or 352.

Don't know how you add oil unless from the passenger side. PVC should be sweeping the engine inside so maybe backwards from most the breather is in the passenger side and being drawn out on the drivers side.

Looks like the radiator and fan are aftermarket. 4 spd tranny looks correct.

Nice looking ol truck.

Interesting... I wonder why they previous owner did that.
Oh well, I'll probably swap in new valve covers sooner rather than later anyway.
