1999 super duty electrical problem
I bought the truck a few months ago and have been slowly working on it. I bought it cheap because of a misfire that multiple shops couldn't trace... Which is a whole separate deal on its own haha. But what is really bothering me is a strange GEM issue in having. Please forgive me if its been discussed before but through all my searching I could not find anything that matched my particular case.
Anyways, bought the truck and had no wipers, windows 4wd etc. checked everything and concluded gem module was dead. Had the windshield repaired, had fuse box replaced right before I bought it, (the box for it was on the back seat) and finally bought the gem. And everything came to life just as it should.
Few weeks later, got in the truck, started it, rolled the windows down and saw smoke coming from the gauge cluster. Checked the wipers and windows etc. all dead again. Screaming and cursing I pulled the gem out and it was burnt on the circuit board itself right by the front most plug and a ground pin. Went to ford assuming the module they sold me was just defective and they gave me a new one with no problems. Well the new one did the same thing again. Now I totally understand I should've used my head before replacing the stupid module a second time. I Also doubt they will replace the module for me again so I'm prepared to fork out the money again.
But has anyone ever had a problem or heard of a problem with the ground going to the module? Or any actual connection going to the module. I am obviously not buying another module before I know for sure the problem has been fixed.
Also while I'm trying to figure this out I am looking for suggestions on how to bypass the module so I can get the wipers to work. It's been raining a lot and slightly embarrassing to ask for rides to both my jobs cause my wipers don't work.
Thank you very much everyone!
Chris
