HPOP

Can the HPOP be removed without first removing the fuel bowl? If so, what is the difficulty level? Is there a possibility of damaging something else? I currently have the fuel bowl out of my truck (leaking) and am rebuilding it. I have just over 140,000 miles on it and figured I should do the HPOP as well. Should I just put the fuel bowl back in and worry about the HPOP another day? Any opinions?

IIRC i think you have to remove the fuel bowl to change the HPOP but someone will correct me if i'm wrong. If there is nothing wrong with your HPOP and with only 140K on it then I wouldn't even touch it. There are most on here with double to triple the miles you have on their OE HPOP. Now if you plan on making some bigger HP then you might want to get yours upgraded to a T500 or Adrenline HPOP but for now I would leave it be.

I agree with this, and it's most likely true. But at least while it's right there in the open get a good light and inspection mirror and look all around and under it for oil leaks. The IPR is mounted to it and that can leak. The o-ring kit is inexpensive in the grand scheme of things, and easy enough to do.

Removing the HPOP is the perfect time to do a fuel bowl rebuild. When I upgraded my HPOP, I had no issues with the fuel bowl - but it was coming out anyway, so I bought the rebuild kit. Once I saw the condition of those aged seals, I was really glad I did the rebuild.

Not surprisingly I agree with Tugly again. I did the same and glad that I did as well. I was in there to replace the HPOP and did the fuel bowl while I had it off, not the other way around. 200K takes a toll on a lot of things you can't see.

Yes, you have to remove the fuel bowl to get the HPOP out and you need the room to slide the HPOP out (there's a gear on the end of it so it has to slide out into the valley to get it out). IMO it's not worth pulling it just because you're in there, there's no real preventative maintenance to do the HPOP. If you have any problems then you can investigate (oil leak, etc.) but I don't think there's any worth in taking it off because it's there.

I'm beginning to notice many comments of a complimentary nature (all quite deserving) regarding Mr. Tugly in several threads.. I think we should back off a bit lest Stinky gets jealous... B-)

I did my HPOP with out removing the fuel bowl with no problems. I've also seen many done at our get together in Morgan hill at Andy's house with no problem. That said redoing the fuel bowl is a prefect time when doing together. I did mine later and didn't do the drain valve and now have to do it as well. I had a repair kit that didn't include the drain valve gaskets so I didn't do it at the time.

Poor Stinky... he's been in the dog house since Christmas - watching the Prius, the Jeep, and the garage get all the attention.

Does anyone have the torque specs on all of the various fittings on the HPOP. I know what the torque is for the mounting bolts and the main drive gear. I need the them for the rear bolt, the IPR, etc...

Ok, pumps almost done. Thanks for the help everyone. I'm waiting on the new serviceable plug kit and then it's going back in!
