I recently purchased a new turbo shaft, journal housing and an upgraded rebuild kit that included a new banks wheel and plan to work on this over the next three days as I am off work.....
In all the readings I have done, it is suggested that the shaft gets balanced. The stuff I purchased is new, and has the markings on it indicating the shaft and the banks wheel have been balanced. I did purchase the two from separate sources.
Does it make sense to take the pieces in and have them balanced. There is a shop about 30 miles from me that can do it same day .....??
I have a done a few turbo rebuilds without balancing the assembly and had no issues. With have the convenience of a shop that close, I'd say "Go for it!" and have it balanced.
^^2x^^ if i would have had a shop that close to me I would have had mine balanced. What's he charging? I have seen them range online $60 to $75 then shipping which is crazy these days for anything.
I would say since the is a local shop that can do it for you I would have it balanced as a assembly. Even though the parts are balanced there is a chance that the stacked balance could be off. Also having them balanced as a assembly will help you get longer life out of your turbo. And if I may ask a favor of you to ask them for a report of how much out of balance it was when they are done. Also see ask brand and model balancer they use please. What is the name of the place and how much do they charge?
