Ok, most of the way done with my FRX install. I need to grind down the "Baby Butt" in order for the last fitting to be installed. What in the world are you guys using to grind that cast iron with?
I've tried both of my angle grinders, with the most worn down disk I can find. None of the come even close to fitting in there.
Also, how much metal am I removing? I dont want to go all the way through the pipe as they aren't leaking at this point.
BTW, I love the free hood latch tattoo you get on your stomach during this install!
Dont want sucks! Haha. The piece that goes into the head can thread in without it. But the hose will not screw onto it without grinding. The instructions say on E99's you have to grind it. I've read on here how other E99 owners had too as well. I just need to know what kind of tool they are using...... She's sitting in the road with the hood up right now.
But, on the good side. My back is getting a much needed rest!
So I used this as an excuse to buy a dremel. I used the little tootsie roll looking sand disk in 60 grit. After sanding and test fitting too many times. I forgot to put the plug back in the head so I'm sure I filled it full of metal shavings. I turned the fuel pump on to flush it out. Sent diesel fuel everywhere but the fitting still didnt fit. I didnt feel like starting the truck on fire so I'm done for the night..... Hopefully tomorrow when the sun is back up and the fuel had dried up I can finish it.
For those who havent done this on an E99, it isnt a 1 hour job, or a three beer job! You need to drive it afterwards apparently. Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow.
Cutting disk on a dremel. I could see someone cutting all the way through the pipe on accident with that though!!!
It's all done and running. The only difference I can tell is starting. I swear it is cranking over while starting 10 times faster than it did before. Am I imagining things, or have other people experienced this?
