The Sync systems in both my 2010 and my 2013 are a PITA. Rarely does it ever start with what I turned it off. The 2013 just randomly picks AM & FM stations, most of the time it's static, when started. The 2010 "loses" the usb port about once per week. I've done the fuse pull & the master reset all to no change. IMO it's just a POS system that Ford can't be bothered with to fix. Sorry Ford Guys, a power down is not a fix.
Hi rbentnail,
I wish I could be more helpful, but there aren't any settings within SYNC to allow a default source to be selected. I am unable to recommend any troubleshooting for that. When you say that the truck loses the USB port, do you mean that your USB device is not recognized? Which type of media device are you connecting via USB?

Hello xr7gt390,
Since SYNC Services do work, I can tell that your phone is paired correctly with SYNC. Which voice commands don't work? Let me know if it only seems to be commands that control your phone or if all commands do not work. Also, which system is your vehicle equipped with: Support Topics: SYNC Technology | Ford.com

When I started my truck yesterday, once again some random AM station came on. So I push the "aux" button to listen to music from my 32 gb memory stick that's plugged into the dash usb port. The display says something like "source" and freezes there. I had to once again push the buttons to tell it to use the usb input as the source and not to use bluetooth streaming from my phone. This is such a regular occurrence that I've developed the habit to do this even if I'm not using the usb port right off. Better to do it when I'm stationary in my driveway than when I'm driving through a crowded town.
Here it is some 5 years after my introduction to Synch in a then-new 2010 F150 and this 2013 model is still not debugged. Ford definitely missed the mark on this on. Based on my experiences with Sych, I thank goodness I didn't get the nav system- Lord knows how many railroad tracks and lakes I'd be driving into.

When you get the chance, please PM your VIN so I can take a look at your account and see which software version is installed.

Kim, thanks for the document link. After reading through all this I decided to give it another go. I loaded the latest software update this weekend, then I tested Navigation and phone dial features. They seem to be working now. I'll try blue tooth audio commands later this week.
Thanks, Jim

That's funny as hell. The other week when I was helping my daughter shop for hew 2015 Fusion, the salesman mentioned that it had Ford SYNC. I waited my turn and explained to my daughter that SYNC should not be considered as a selling point but rather a future warranty claim.
The only problem with "future warranty claim" is that the dealership and Ford themselves will do nothing to help, your warranty is useless when it comes to Sync problems.
I purchased a new 2013 F150 in September of 2013, on a Saturday evening. Monday morning, I brought it back, complaining that the Sync system would not recognize my flash drive. It did once, but never again. The service department advised me that there was no one at the dealership who could work on the Sync system, I would have to bring my truck back on Tuesday or Thursday between 10 a.m. and noon, as they had someone who came in between those hours to deal with Sync problems.
I left the truck, and again, and yet again. Three trips to the service department, leaving the truck every time (and no loaner, either). No help. None. "We cannot duplicate the problem."
Reading online reveals that when you change the flash drive, you will have to pull the fuse or the battery cable before Sync will recognize the new flash drive. But neither the dealer nor Ford ever admitted anything being wrong, or advised me how to make it work.
Sync sucks. Plain and simple. The rest of the truck I like, and I have learned to just use SiriusXM when I'm in the truck.

Hi ohenry,
Please send a PM with your VIN; I'm happy to help you get this resolved.
I just updated the software on my Sync and some things did improve. I can now stream and control Pandora which I couldn't before. I am still having connection issues but it may be due to the crappy Lollipop software that is on my phone. I regret updating it.

Yeah, I've read some really nasty things about Lollipop. Thankfully it was before I updated.
