front hub missing hex nut on axle

front hub missing hex nut on axle

working on a buddies 99 f250 and his hubs weren't unlocking. took the riverside apart and theres no hex nut on the axle! there is one on the passenger side. is there suppose to be one on the Driverside?

There should be no hub nut on any side, there sealed bearings and the axle shaft should be held in with a snap ring. I dont know what is going on there someone played around with it.

Are you referring to the plastic hex shaped thrust washer? You should have them on both sides.

I think he's talking about the plastic shim nut and yes both sides should be the same. Parts are inexpensive.


You are talking about OEM auto locking hubs, correct?
