Another side mirror question....

Good Morning, Fellas!
Say, what was/is the purpose/reason for the little 'fin' located on the back side of some of these Jr West Coast style mirrors?

Seller posted the part number: D5UZ-17696-C .. Seller is unaware that these 2 mirrors were only used on the LEFT side.

D5UZ-17696-B Right & D5UZ-17696-C Left .. TYPE 2 Western Junior Swing-Lok Painted High Profile Mirrors-Adjustable for Height / Obsolete

Applications: 1975/91 Econolines.

These mirrors will not fit F100/350's properly, as the Econoline door profile is different.
