HI guys.. I'm looking to buy a 2011-2015 250 or 350 4wd with the Diesel engine and Crew cab.. I've found a 2011 that seems to run and drive well and I'm close enough to want to do more research.
Any common failures on these I should look for?
This one is loaded up fully , nav, heated/cooled seats, the works.
Some of the 2011's got potentially bad exhaust valves. Basically they are a two piece valve that can come apart and wreak havoc on your engine. It's still a rare occurrence, like maybe 2%. The "Stop Safely Now" was a failed egt sensor. It would cause the truck to basically not drive. That is now fixed with the current recall flash. Buy a 2012+ and don't worry!
also heard some issues with radiators cracking. For the most part the 6.7's have been really good engines and I wouldn't be afraid to buy one if I needed a diesel.

Yes the radiators fail pretty easy too. I know mishimoto makes a replacement that's fully aluminum. It costs like $250 more then a oem replacement. But worth the extra money it will be the last one you install. These have been failing since 2008. They are the same as the 6.4 radiators.
Ok, call me petty, but my biggest gripe with my 2011 SD is not anything mechanical. It's the fact that engineers never seem to notice the basic flaws of their design. I'm talking about the windshield wiper pockets where the hood meets the windshield. My SD doesn't fit in my garage and those ?/!%$#@ plastic pockets are constantly packed with ice from the window defrost. I've had to readjust the wipers further up the windshield to keep the wipers from being constantly frozen to the cowl area. I saw these Ford SD prototypes up here in the middle of February running the Haul Road prior to their release in late 2010. And no one caught this issue. Sorry, love the truck, hate the lack of common sense details flaws in todays technology. It always works on paper....... Oh, and the fact that a screw driver and ball peen hammer pop the door lock out in 1 second. (This cost me $1,500 and I hadn't had the truck 1 week yet)
