My escape has over 200k miles. My battery light dimly flickers constantly when running. there is also a misfire that seems to correspond with the flicker. the faster i rev the engine, the faster the battery light blinks.
my battery constantly shows 14.1 volts. the battery is new the alternator has been replaced twice in the past 2 years.... any ideas?
i noticed when i use my rear washer fluid, it spills into the car on the passenger side kick panel inside the vehicle.
also when alternators go bad its possible for them to send stray AC voltage back and slow the electrical system including battery gauges engine controls and so on good luck and keep us posted. when you checked the charging voltage was the battery light on or off either way check your drive belt tension and be sure its not slipping
I think earlier Escapes, the battery icon is directly wired to the battery and/or doesn't come from the PCM.
This is my understanding as well from cars just prior this era- the computer knows nothing about the state of the charging system - but I don't have the books to prove it in this year so I won't claim that as an outright fact, only that it is my belief that's how it works.
The OP says the flickering light accompanies what's described as a misfire; perhaps the engine is actually encountering an ignition/running problem and the dash charge lamp is displaying the effects of that. IOW possibly the charging system isn't the cause of the problem but is a symptom of the problem.
I would pull the codes and see what the computer thinks is going on.

How things change! Now they have a battery management system where the alternator output is varied by the load. When a new battery is installed you should reset the system telling it a new battery was installed. So much for DIY.
