I started up the 390 with a 2bbl at the boat ramp after taking the boat for a spin on a 105 degree afternoon and it started rough. I thought it was just a hiccup because it ran fine to the ramp. Anyway, to make a long story short I popped the hood and on idle it was pumping gas out of the bowl breather hole unless I stayed on the RPM's - stuck float ? bad float valve ? Well I got the boat out and ran home keeping the RPM's up and once I got home it cleared up. Debris in the float pin ? It's a stock carb, rebuilt. HELP ! I'm thinking about replacing the intake to 4bbl and slapping on a Holley. Does the Edelbrock intake have all the bolt holes for the accel. linkage or will I have to make it up ?
1) If you have recently replaced your fuel cap, make sure it is vented.
2) 105* is considered warm weather- if you happened to shut off your engine while on the ramp and then restarted, that may have given the fuel in the carb enough time to heat up and actually boil.
If you don't think any of these are the issue, then I would suspect some sort of trash in the carb.
I'm not sure about the Edel. intake. I think you can go to their website and see an actual picture of the intake.
If the linkage you are talking about is the 'reverse leverage' contraption...I'd say NO. You dont need it anyway. A simple piece of threaded rod and a couple rod ends will make your 4bbl work just fine. Been there, done that on a couple trucks.
I never really understood all the logic behind all the b-s linkage under the hood . I've heard the story about being "safety" for if the spring broke, the throttle would go closed instead of full throttle. Ya, okay, if that's the reason
Been 20yrs and never had that problem with my trucks.
