finally...charging issues
73 f250 390/4spd
When I put the street avenger carb back on there I decided to check voltage to make sure the choke would work like it should. Should be 12v. I'm getting millivolts at that wire. The way I have it hooked up is running the choke wire off the terminal for the orange wire...I guess the field wire.
So I checked voltage at the batter. 12.16v. Started truck. 12.16. Turned on high beams and blower motor. 11.85.
Removed alternator. Tested 3 times on a tester. Checked good 3 times.
New voltage regulator just to be safe. Same results
Out comes the wiring diagrams I have. I don't see a fusible link anywhere near the alternator on the wiring sheets. Nor do I see one actually in the wiring. No fried wires. No melted any things. No hacked up wires in the harness.
I've tested alternators before that test good on the machine but fail when installed.
Anyone got any ideas?
Put new alt on. Same thing. Unhooked wire going to choke. Now it charges.
Wired choke to "S" everything works as it should.
Somewhere I read to wire to "F" terminal. Well, that was wrong. It only carries 4-5v. Add the thermostat for the choke and it goes down to mV.
Stator wire carries 7v, which should be sufficient.
I'm sure this info is around. I guess I should have read more and not trusted the intermess until I tested voltage for myself
