SOON WILL NEED IT

Hello. My 1974 F100 with 360 is a factory a/c truck. If I replace the origianl compressor with a more modern version and run 34A in it, will I have to install electric cooling fans and larger alternator. I understand cooling will be reduced at low speeds and at stops with fan clutch and I know about replacing all the hoses. Thanks for any help

It's 134A.

A higher amperage rating alternator is highly recommended if using electric cooling fans. However, the upgrade is not necessary per se if just using a modern compressor. It's better but not required.

There's a bit of non-sequiter in your statement about a fan clutch. I'm confused by the reference. Please clarify.

You could keep the clutch fan, and just run an electric "pusher" fan on the front of the condenser(if you have space)..did that on my 88 Ranger..just a little 10" pusher fan, and it helps a bunch in the 110+ AZ heat or you could do the taurus/lincoln electric fan and go total electric...and like HIO said, upgrade the alternator.. If you are going to run electric..do the G3 alternator swap..very easy, and well worth it..I did the G3 130 amp alt. swap on my 88 ranger..WAAAY better..can have every accessory turned on, and the alt could care less...my 77 also has a G3 waiting for installation....when I find an engine for it to be bolted to....

I made statement about fan clutch because I was hoping to be able to keep present fan and clutch set up with upgrading to an electric fan. I know if I add electric fans, I will need to upgrade alternator. Just trying to keep $$$ down if possible

Definitely use a fan shroud with an OEM fan/fan clutch. I would just do the compressor swap and see how it goes.

If cooling becomes an issue, then do the 3G alt swap and electric pusher fan only when the AC is on.... Or swap to Lincoln Mark VIII fan and ditch the factory fan altogether.
