I have a 1946 Ford 1.5 ton (I think) cab and chassis. The data tag from the glove box door has an engine # *699T-1255744*. This # matches the one on the frame and tranny. The model # on the data tag is 694T. If I'm reading the green book correctly, this model # says its a v8 (it is), 100hp, 194" wheelbase school bus. The truck actually has 134" wheelbase and I don't think it was a bus at any time. Anyone have any thoughts?
It's possible the frame was shortened at one time, and converted to a flat bed
(many were, although it would require changing the driveshaft as well, if the
wheelbase was altered).
Check the frame ends, tops of rails, and spring shackles for cuts/ mods/box
supports, poor welding, etc. The story may reveal itself..
