I've got new springs rear and front for my 1951 F3 and need to ream the bronze bushings for the new pins to fit. Years ago I had an adjustable cutting tool to do this but cant find it. Been searching online and cant seem to come up with what I need without spending $400 at MSC or $10 at hf. Any suggestions? Thanks!
There's a bunch of used ones on ebay pretty cheap....
I have a whole drawer full of them, got one set from thew tool truck and the rest at pawn shops and auctions.
What size do you need? I may have some duplicates....
Just a thought, wouldn't a drill bit be the easiest way to resize the bushing ?
Easiest ....maybe but a drillbit will never leave a round hole and the tolerances will be way off. This will make them wear faster that necessary and you will have the slopp back to early.
Search for "adjustable reamer" on fleabay and you will have your hand full.
Took mine to a machine shop and they were reamed for $ 25.00. Let a pro do it for a good price and you will get a quality job done right and not have to buy a tool you will never use again.
When I did mine I just "fine tuned" the bushing a bit with a rat tail file. From looking at the bushing after being pressed into the spring, you could see the high spots in the bushing. It was basically at the seam of the bushing. A little dressing with the file and it all fit well
