My left blinker indicator dash bulb is out. What all is involved with getting to the bulb? I'm sure it's not too bad, just would like to hear from someone who's already done it. Thanks.
You have to remove the cluster to get to the bulb. '
Yes sir, I knew that. What I need to know is the steps involved in removing the cluster. Such as **** removal, screw locations and whatever else is involved.
For a 92+, pull the headlight switch out and find the slot in the base of the ****. Use a pick or something to GENTLY pry on the clip inside the slot as you pull the plastic **** off the shaft. Next pry off the plastic trim pieces on each side of the steering column below the cluster. You'll see screws under them, take the screws out. Now depending on how brave you are you can either try to work the cluster bezel over the column, or remove the lower dash trim and drop the column first. I always just work it over the column but I have done this a few times so just beware the bezel is kinda easy to break.
Before you pull the cluster bezel off, reach behind it and unplug the fuel switch, 4x4 buttons, and anything else on the bezel. Once it's free and out of the way, you'll see the 4 screws that hold the cluster in.
It sounds harder than it is. I had mine out in 10 minutes. I put the truck in the lowest gear to get the shifter out of the way. Just be careful when removing the gear selector indicator from the cluster, you need to do that before you can remove and it's 2 screws that hold it in.
I didn't have to completely remove the cluster. I was able to pull it forward and tilt it up to access the bulbs. Didn't even have to buy a bulb, I used one that was in the 4x4 slot. It was brand new being mine is 2wd and never used. Also fitted a piece of black cardboard into the tunnel over the flashing airbag light. Worked good, no light comes through at all and no beeping due to bulb removal.
