Hi I have a 2003 Ford Expedition 4x4 5.4L Edie Bauer. Just recently it started shifting really hard from a stop i had to get it up to around 1500 rpm's and it would shift into gear. (i would describe it as it would slam into second then shift fine but only from a stop.) I went home backed into my parking spot as usual everything was fine or so i thought. The next day i ran a couple errands however for some reason i always parked in a pull through spot. I then went by a friends house to show them what it was doing and it wouldn't do it so thats when i tried to back up. I put the truck in reverse and it lunged forward and essentially went into park it wont move. I then put it in neutral to try to push it back well that is now first gear. I took it to a mechanic and he just kinda scratched his head and said i can swap the tranny for $3,000. I guess i have a short series of questions here. 1. has anyone ever heard of or had this happen to them? If so what was the problem? 2. Does it sound like I need to just have the tranny swapped with a new one? 3. Or does it sound like this could be some sort of sensor or something that can be replaced and fix the problem much cheaper? Any input will be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long story I just wanted to make sure you had all the info thanks for reading.
