I was wondering if any of you fellow Expedition owners have had this problem. I currently own a 99 Expediton with 102k on the clock, it runs good but lately I have had this intermittent problem that it will not shift right from 1st to second, alot of times I just hit the throttle and then it will shift, but normally it shifts at or about 1 to 2k on the tach, but lately it will not shift until about 3k on the tach. I noticed when it is going to act up the engine idles higher in gear but not all the time, I used our Ford Rotunda scan tool and tried to pull up some codes, I did pull up a MAF code but there has been no check engine light, I don't changing or replacing parts but I really do not
want to take this vehicle to the shop unless I have to. The tranny has been
serviced regularly and does not slip, this issue is only intermittent and not all the time which leads me to believe it's a bad sensor of some sort any help will be appreciated Thanks, all.
I had a similar problem with my 02 Expy. Same type of problem you are describing. However, the Check Engine Light did come on in my instance. Ended up being a bad shift sensor in the transmission. This happened with around 2500 miles on the odometer. Now have 37,000 miles with no problems since the repair.
I had to take a military (Government owned vehicle ) to the Ford dealership the other day and I had asked the lead technician about this problem, he also mentioned about the sensor that you have mentioned, he also said a sticking valve body, and a throttle position sensor sticking, I cleaned the throttle body and it hasn't missed a beatm since
Hate to tell ya but I had the same problems a while back with my 98 exped where it wouldnt go into reverse. It drove fine but it finnally kicked the crapper after a long time of not going into reverse i hade the tranny rebuilt and works great now. 1800.00 bux later.... and due to the driving with no reverse for a period of time it caused more damage to the tranny housing which in turn costed another 300.00 bux to replace that so if I were you id take it in and get it checked out asap
